[ Please turn off your cellphone before continuing ... (unless you are reading this on one, of course) ]... Het was in één keer goed!
After our submission of the RAUDIO IIIII streaming app to the app store it took just a little over two weeks to get Apple's approval. Arguably, the tight control and supervision exercised by Apple on all things iPhone related is what will remain a principal drawback when embarking upon an iPhone app project. It did, for example, incite us to classify the app as 'adult' ourselves. Which is kind of ridiculous, but we wanted to avoid a possible first time rejection, were an Apple censor to tune into one of the twenty sound art streams and by pure coincidence hit upon a 'foul word' being uttered...
Nevertheless, we are happy now. RAUDIO IIIII lets you listen 24/7 to the full series of one pure sound thing web streams that we put together over the past 5 years.
Each stream comes with detailed information that you may read on the in-app browser while listening to the stream. The application itself only has a bare minimum of controls: on start-up you will plunge right in the middle of one of them. Each stream has its own (numbered) screen. If you feel like changing, just hit the little square button on the current stream's screen, or shake your iPhone. The app then will randomly pick another one. Upon re-start of the application, you come back to the stream that you were listening to when you left it. The series includes Leif Inge's 9 Beet Stretch (a recording of Beethoven's 9th symphony, stretched to play for 24 hours, with pitch correction), the full 12+ hours archive of SoundInjury (a great early net sound art project), Back to Berlin, Het GeSpreK, and many more. All streams play without beginning, without end.
On friday november 13th we officially present RAUDIO IIIII in the Kleine Zaal, in Paradiso, Amsterdam, with a little fest that will start there at 17h. Click here for more information.
You are cordially invited to join us there. Grab the app (it's free!), and let us know what you think ... [ You may now turn on your phone again. ]
Congratulations!
By Sandra FauconnierI just downloaded the app and am trying it out as we speak. Very nice that you have given us insight in developing art projects and apps for the iThing... congratulations too!
